Dr. Maya Callender graduated from Florida State University in 2015. Her research interests include child language development, literacy acquisition, and early intervention. Her most recent studies have included investigations of the influence of the environment (e.g. maternal input and socioeconomic status) on young children’s language skills. She is also presently investigating the relationship between children’s temperament and their narrative performance. Dr. Callender’s clinical interests include service delivery among multicultural and multilingual populations with an emphasis on supporting the early language, literacy, and socio-emotional development of young orphans in developing and newly advancing countries (e.g. South Africa).
Maya received a Moellership Award from the Center for Leadership and Social Change which funded service in South Africa for twelve weeks during her dissertation. |
